Mass loaded vinyl is the easiest, lowest cost way to control sound transmission from room to room or outside to inside. Vinyl barrier is easy to install. Just attach it to the studs, and apply drywall over it. There is no special equipment necessary to install barrier, as it only adds 1/8” to the thickness of the wall. Many other products will add thickness to the wall, necessitating the use of special gang boxes and windows. One pound per square foot mass loaded vinyl has a STC of 27. Two pound barrier has a STC of 32.
